Training that keeps young people and staff safe
At Silver Lining Care, the safety and wellbeing of both our young people and our staff is central to everything we do. Our dedicated Behaviour Management Team provides practical, trauma-informed guidance in real time and through ongoing staff development.
Practical, trauma-informed support

Safety & wellbeing
A consistent focus on safer practice, staff welfare and therapeutic outcomes for young people.
Learning embedded quickly
Debriefs and coaching ensure lessons are captured and applied constructively, without delay.
Relationship-based practice
Approaches are grounded in empathy, consistency and helping young people feel heard, supported and safe.
In-person debriefs and support
Following any significant incident, a member of our Behaviour Management Team attends the home in person within 24 hours (or as soon as involved staff are next on shift) to facilitate a structured debrief.
Debriefs are designed to
- Support staff wellbeing after high-stress situations
- Reflect on what went well and what could be improved
- Plan consistent, relationship-based responses moving forward
- Promote safe, informed approaches rooted in best practice
This immediate response ensures that both staff and young people feel heard, supported, and safe — and that learning is embedded quickly and constructively.
What staff can expect
A consistent, structured format that supports recovery and improvement.
Where appropriate, guidance links to individual risk assessment, behaviour support planning and restorative follow-up.
On-demand coaching and training
The Behaviour Management Team is available for staff at any time, whether on shift or during time off. We recognise that challenging moments don’t always happen on a schedule — and neither does our support.
- One-to-one coaching and advice
- Informal refreshers and practical walkthroughs
- Support with planning for known behaviours or risk escalations
Built for real-world practice
Coaching is tailored to the young person, the team and the context — with a strong emphasis on calm, consistent practice.
Support is coordinated to reinforce agreed strategies across shifts, reducing mixed messages and helping young people feel safer.
Tools and techniques
Our team works closely with all staff to embed consistent, trauma-informed strategies across every home. We ensure teams feel confident, capable and calm — with the skills and support needed to build lasting, therapeutic relationships.
Embedded across practice
Positive Physical Intervention uses approved and risk-assessed approaches only when absolutely necessary.
What PACE means
- Playfulness to reduce defensiveness and build connection
- Acceptance of feelings while maintaining safe boundaries
- Curiosity to explore what’s underneath behaviour
- Empathy to communicate understanding and calm
These tools sit alongside risk assessment and individualised planning — ensuring responses are consistent, proportionate and therapeutic.
